Abstract:
Studies of the interplay among various subsystems in solids enhance understanding of fundamental principles of condensed matter physics and open new paths for more precise control and utilization of the corresponding materials. It was recently realized that noncollinear spin textures can lead to pronounced spin-lattice effects.
In this talk, I will discuss our findings in an itinerant kagome antiferromagnet Mn3Ge. which orders in an anthichiral planar 120° spin structure with a Neel temperature well above room temperature. Using inelastic x-ray scattering, ab initio modeling, and analytical theory, we uncovered strong hybridization between magnetic excitations and transverse optical phonons with the coupling of the order of several meV.
